Accelerating Discovery, Vision and Advancement in Career Excellence and Research for Medical Students Program (ADVANCER II)
Providing medical students with exposure to clinical and translational research and the skills needed for a successful research career

Accelerating Discovery, Vision and Advancement in Career Excellence and Research Program for Medical Students (ADVANCER II) is a career development program designed for medical students seeking to advance their training and abilities in health care research. The goal of ADVANCER II is to establish a solid foundation for University of Pittsburgh medical students who are interested in pursuing careers engaged with clinical or translational research. The program offers comprehensive skills training, networking, mentoring, and funding to achieve the program’s goal as follows:
- Comprehensive Skills Training
Including presentations and work sessions on: Goal setting, Optimizing productivity, Development of effective CVs, Writing Mechanics, Research Question Development, Presentation Skills
- Networking
Opportunities to network with junior and senior investigators and role models
- Mentoring
At least biannual in person meetings with ADVANCER II program director to set and discuss personalized goals
- Funding
Provision of funding (up to $1500 per scholar) to support research activities (which must be used by June 30 of the following year)

Who should apply?
Medical students interested in a research career and entering their 3rd year at the University of Pittsburgh. We welcome applications from all scholars, including those from underrepresented populations. This includes individuals from African American, Hispanic, Native/American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Island populations and individuals with disabilities.
