PCOR K12 Alum Dr. Kristin Ray Collaborates with Colleague to Tackle the "Baby Penalty"

ICRE alum and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Kristin Ray, MD, MS, joined colleague Jacqueline Burgette, DMD, PhD, in addressing the challenge faced by many parents—particularly women—in academia: the "baby penalty," or the concept that having and caring for a child can limit the career trajectories of working parents.

PhD in CTS Student Successfully Defends Dissertation

PhD in Clinical and Translational Science student Colleen Judge-Golden successfully defended her dissertation on July 24. Her dissertation is entitled “Patient-, Provider- and System-Level Factors Impacting Contraceptive Access and Use.”

The ICRE Welcomes Its Summer Cohort

The ICRE welcomed 90 trainees into its various degree and training programs this summer. The newest cohort has members from 15 different University departments and includes trainees ranging from medical students to University faculty members.

2019 Institute for Clinical Research Education Commencement Ceremony

On Tuesday, May 21, the ICRE held its annual commencement ceremony, which this year recognized the 92 graduates from our various degree and training programs. It was a well-attended event with many friends and family members in attendance. In addition to celebrating the outstanding graduates, the ICRE also recognized members of our faculty with various awards.

ICRE Alumnus Awarded PCORI Funding for the Largest-Ever Behavioral Trial in Sickle Cell Disease

Charles Jonassaint, PhD, MHS, Assistant Professor of Medicine and former CEED and PCOR K12 Scholar, received funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute for his latest project, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Real-Time Pain-Management Intervention for Sickle cell via Mobile Applications (CaRISMA).

Chelsea Proulx, MPH, Evaluation Project Coordinator at the Institute for Clinical Research Education, recently had her thesis research on the associations of LGBTQ-inclusive sex education with mental health outcomes and school-based victimization in U.S. high schools published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.

Doris Rubio, PhD, became the new director of the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) on February 1, 2019. Wishwa Kapoor, MD, MPH, who founded and led the ICRE for over a dozen years, will move into the position of ICRE director of strategic planning.
