Overview: Institute for Clinical Research Education

The Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) at the University of Pittsburgh has a distinguished history of and established infrastructure for successfully training a wide range of individuals in clinical and translational research and supporting their career development. These individuals include faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students,medical residents, medical students, undergraduates, and high school students.

Founded in 2005, the ICRE is devoted to the development of high-quality clinical and translational researchers throughout the University. The ICRE has core faculty members and mentors from the disciplines represented in each of the six schools of the health sciences—the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, and the Graduate School of Public Health—and is designed to offer opportunities in clinical and translational studies ranging from doctoral degree programs to brief research experiences.

With the advent of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards, the ICRE strategically built upon its existing programs to create a strong infrastructure for the Research Education and Career Development Core of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, now in its sixth year.
