Postaward Tips
- Get to know the postaward contact in your department or office of research. There are appointment forms and termination forms that must be completed accurately and on time.
- Aggressively recruit and try to fill your program in your first year. Having the right people and developing the program around your trainees are key.
- Work with the Office of Academic Career Development, the Survival Skills and Ethics Program, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) to make sure that your trainees have full access to the support services of the University of Pittsburgh.
- Have your training program and trainees participate in the annual trainee poster session during Science Day in the fall of each year.
- Make sure you understand which funds support your fellows (e.g., know the difference between what costs are supported by the NIH and what costs are assumed by the school). One example is the stipend differential. Currently, the NIH cap for predoctoral tuition support is $20,772. The School of Medicine predoctoral stipend is $24,000. Know where the cost differential comes from.
