The PhD Program in Clinical and Translational Science is designed for a diverse population of students who are in various stages of their research career. The program benefits are individualized for faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, and others. The Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) will work with each student to identify support that is tailored according to the student's own needs.

Below are some hypothetical examples of program benefits for different types of students.

Graduate Students with a University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Predoctoral Training Grant (TL1):

  • Stipend.
  • Tuition.
  • Individual health insurance (with an option to purchase additional family coverage).
  • Research support.
  • Flexible vacation time.
  • Paid travel to scientific meetings.

Clinical Fellows, Residents, Faculty, and Staff at the University of Pittsburgh:

  • The ICRE will work with each student to identify sources of tuition assistance for tuition that is not covered by education benefits from the University of Pittsburgh or UPMC.
  • The ICRE will work with each resident's or fellow's home department or division to identify support to contribute toward an appropriate stipend, based on the postgraduate year.
  • The ICRE will work with each student to provide research support through the Design, Biostatistics, and Clinical Research Ethics (DBE) Core of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI ).
