Medical Education Awards

Merit-based Medical Education Awards were presented by Rosanne Granieri, MD, Director of the Degree Granting Programs in Medical Education.

Anna Donovan, MD, received the Innovation in Medical Education Award. This award is granted to the nominee of best new course/curriculum, teaching method, or educational activity.

Michelle Freeman, MD, received the Outstanding Scholarship in Medical Education Award. This award recognizes an educational activity in which the nominee was the lead developer or author, culminating in a regional or national dissemination.

Clinical Research Awards

The Clinical Research Awards were presented by Kevin Kraemer, MD, MSc, Faculty in the Degree Granting Programs of Clinical Research and Medical Education.

Dio Kavalieratos, PhD, received the Outstanding Grant Proposal Award. The nominees of this award are chosen from the students within the CLRES 2071/2072 classes, and their grant proposals are reviewed and voted upon. Dr. Kavalieratos' grant, entitled Developing Patient-Centered Palliative Care to Improve Heart Failure Patient Quality of Life, subsequently received a career development award. Other nominees for the award were Haq Nawaz, MD, MBBS, and Elizabeth Krans, MD, MSc.

Simiao Li, MD, MS, and Ryan Shields, PharmD, received the Outstanding Thesis in Clinical Research Awards.

  • Dr. Li was a recipient from her two theses: Retinal Hemorrahages in Low-Risk Children Evaluated for Physical Abuse and Women Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence - What's the Story.
  • Dr. Shields was awarded based on the following theses: Epidemiological, Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Extensively Drug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Infections among Solid Organ Transplant Recipients and Caspofungin MICs Correlate with Treatment Outcomes among Patients with Candida glabrata Invasive Candidiasis and Prior Echinocandin Exposure.

Faculty and Alumni Awards

Co-Director of the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE), Doris Rubio, PhD, presented the Faculty and Alumni Awards.

Ken Smith, MD, MS, received the Distinguished Mentor Award. The recipient(s) of this award exhibits dedication to their mentee(s) by providing significant contribution to his/her career development, providing timely and constructive feedback, investing in the mentee(s) independent success, and creating opportunities for him/her to enhance their careers.

Molly Conroy, MD, MPH, received the Excellence in Teaching Award. This faculty member is nominated by students who believe this person has gone above and beyond the classroom, shown unparalleled passion for education, and made a positive impact on their career in clinical and translational research and medical education.

Steven Little, PhD, received the Distinguished Alumni Award. The recipient(s) of this award has shown exceptional achievement and significant contribution to the field of clinical and translational science, excellence in research education and/or mentorship, achievement in translating research into the improved practice of health care, and outstanding professional and personal development through either traditional channels or innovative approaches.
