ICRE Welcomes its New Administrative Director

Starting May 1, the ICRE will have a new Administrative Director: Megan Miller. Megan is coming to us from the Division of Geriatric Medicine, where she has been the Clinical Research Operations Director since 2015. Before that, Megan had worked since 2000 in the Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Center, a clinical research center directed by Dr. Susan Greenspan, when she was a student worker studying biology at Pitt. After she graduated, she continued on in the Center as a research coordinator for four years, and then as the administrator who oversaw the center (from 2005 to 2015). Along the way, Megan also earned a Master of Education (MEd) in Higher Education Management from Pitt.

These various positions have given Megan a wide variety of research administrative experience including managing all aspects of grants funding and research portfolios, writing and submitting grants, and supervising research administrative staff. Beyond the day to day operations, however, Megan is passionate about finding ways to make the workplace a positive, enjoyable environment. She is also dedicated to developing the leadership capabilities of researchers at all levels, so much so that she developed a workshop series around this topic through a P30 core grant.

Considering her background and experience, it is no surprise that Megan has a love for academia and science, and is a fervent believer that good research is what drives advances in medicine. Her gifts and passion will undoubtedly be beneficial to the ICRE’s operations and overall mission, and she is particularly excited about aiding in our efforts to incorporate new technologies into our online learning capabilities as we continue to move our coursework online.

Outside of work Megan spends time with her family—her husband, Dennis (her high school sweetheart), and sons, Brayden (10) and Blake (8)—and can frequently be found at her sons’ little league games.
