Pre-doctoral Fellowships in Clinical and Translational Research
The Institute for Clinical Research Education and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute are pleased to announce the availability of one year pre doctoral fellowship awards in clinical and translational research.
The awards, which provide a stipend, partial tuition, and some research support, are designed to encourage and support students at the University of Pittsburgh who wish to pursue a career in multidisciplinary, clinical and translational research.
We seek outstanding candidates from the Schools of the Health Sciences or any other graduate department within the University who are engaged in clinical or translational research.
Applications are now being accepted online and are due March 17, 2008
Eligible Applicants include:
- MD/PhD students who wish to pursue a PhD in clinical and translational science and have completed at least 2 years of medical school.
- Medical students who have completed at least 3 years of medical school and who want to spend 1 year (between MS III and MS IV) completing a Master’s degree or a certificate in clinical and translational science. (CSTP students are eligible to apply).
- Doctoral students in any of the Schools of the Health Sciences or any other graduate department within the University who are engaged or wish to engage in clinical or translational and who have passed their respective qualifying exams and are primarily be engaged in research.
Program Requirements include:
- A research project that meets the NIH definition of clinical or translational research.
- Have research mentors from at least two disciplines, at least one of which must be from one of the Schools of the Health Sciences.
- At a minimum, students will complete didactic courses on clinical research methods and ethics of human subject research starting in July 2008. Students will also be required to take a statistics course if they have not done so already (tuition will be provided for at least 9 credits).
Application Requirements include:
- An online application.
- A 2 page research proposal describing the applicant’s research interests, career goals, and proposed research project;
- An NIH-style biographical sketch of the applicant;
- A letter from each mentor (minimum of two);
- An NIH-style biographical sketch for each of the mentors;
- A nomination letter from the applicant’s Department Chair or Dean.
