Application Procedure

There is a two step application process for the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. All application materials, except your official medical school transcript, can be sent via email or regular mail to the address below. Your official medical school transcript must be sent via regular mail.

For applicants ENROLLED AT THE University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

  1. Complete a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship application.
    Items for this application include:
    • Common application
    • An official medical school transcript
    • A letter of support from Dean Levine or Dean Harvey.
    • Two letters of support from faculty who can comment on the applicant's academic performance and potential for clinical research
  2. Complete a University of Pittsburgh Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship Application. Applications are due by January 15, 2009.
    Items for this application include:
    • Identification of a University of Pittsburgh mentor; it is strongly recommended, but not required, that the student worked with this clinical research mentor during the summer between the 1st and 2nd year of medical school
    • A letter of support from that mentor (can be 1 of the 2 required letters for the Doris Duke common application)
    • A 2-page research proposal

For applicants ENROLLED AT OTHER medical schools

  1. Complete a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship application.
    Items for this application include:
    • Common application
    • An official medical school transcript
    • A letter of support from your Dean's office
    • Two letters of support from faculty who can comment on the applicant's academic performance and potential for clinical research
  2. Complete a University of Pittsburgh Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship Application. Applications are due by January 15, 2009.
    Items for this application include:
    • Names of 2-5 federally funded University of Pittsburgh clinical researchers and a very brief explanation (2-3 sentences) of the research that they conduct which interests the student.

All University of Pittsburgh Material should be submitted to the ICRE by January 15, 2009.
