Research Training with Three Levels of Support
During the CSTP, each resident will develop and carry out a research project in his or her area of interest, working with a senior researcher (mentor) from the University of Pittsburgh. By completion of the residency and with guidance from the mentor and the CSTP faculty, each resident is expected to have presented data from his or her project in a public scientific forum and to have developed a manuscript to submit for publication.
The residents complement their independent research experience with additional learning among peers. Throughout their medical training, the CSTP residents participate in a seminar series that includes didactic sessions as well as opportunities to present information about their research in progress and receive feedback from faculty members and peers.
The CSTP residents also share their insights with individuals from other Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) programs, each of which is tailored to meet the needs of a specific group of trainees. During the intensive summer series of core courses, participants in the various clinical research programs are taught by multidisciplinary faculty members from the University of Pittsburgh.
