CSTP Schedule
How do medical school and CSTP activities intertwine?
CSTP students, like their medical student peers, focus primarily on preclinical coursework and their core clinical clerkships during the first 3 years in medical school. During this period, the primary differences are that the CSTP students meet with their CSTP advisor semiannually, begin identifying a research mentor early in MS-I, work with their research mentor during the summer between MS-I and MS-II, and participate in the longitudinal CSTP seminar during MS-I and MS-II. In MS-III, when CSTP students begin their core clinical rotations, they stop participating in the CSTP seminar. After they complete the intensive clinical year, they begin the CSTP seminar again. In July and August following completion of MS-III, the CSTP students begin their CSTP year and complete the core curriculum. Between September and June of the CSTP year, the students work on their research project and concurrently take classes to fulfill requirements for the Master of Science or Certificate in Clinical Research. During the final clinical year (MS-IV), CSTP students complete any remaining coursework and finish up their research activities during 2–3 elective research months.
