STARTUP FAQ


Am I eligible for this program?
Students who are US citizens or permanent residents, who have completed at least one semester in a clinical professional doctorate, and who are in good standing at the University of Pittsburgh are eligible. Also, you must not be enrolled in courses during the time of this program and must be able to devote 40 hours a week for at least 8 continuous weeks. Eligible students must be working on a multidisciplinary project that is patient oriented research (involves human subjects, tissues, or specimen), epidemiologic and behavioral studies, or outcomes research and health services research.
Will I be able to choose my topic and mentor?
Yes and you can also discuss your interests and goals with your School Representative, who can suggest options for you.
Will I have a research publication as a result of my work?
Many summer trainees prepare a manuscript for publication during the summer or afterwards, almost all publish their work in abstract form.
What is the stipend and what is covered?
You will receive a stipend set by the NIH of about $425 per week for the weeks you participate.
